Celebrating
Larger
Sizes
If you are among the majority of
society, you probably wear a size 14 or higher. However, we
have become so enamored with tiny waists, advertising firms, media and
clothing manufacturers seem to have completely lost sight of this fact. Looking
for an appropriate dress to wear when you have been blessed with larger
proportions is often akin to going on a scavenger hunt. Sadly, much of the
time, you are forced to either give up your goal or settle for something
your aunt might wear.
Thankfully, this is happening less
often in the shopping experience. From large department stores to small
boutiques, larger sizes are popping up everywhere. The new styles and
colors are awesome, allowing those who have been blessed larger busts,
waists and hips to find the perfect gown for this year's prom, wedding or any
other special event. Imagine! This year you can show up in something that makes
you look gorgeous and your age!
So, now that there is so much to
choose from, it's time to determine the best style for you. You need to take
into consideration where you’re hiding all those assets. Come on, we all have
assets!
Here
are
some
tips:
- You may think you’re too plump, but have you looked at those gams
lately? You might want to show them off with a slit skirt or a high-low hemline.
- An
empire
line
can
be
very
flattering
for
a
thicker
midriff
if
the
skirt
that
falls
from
it
is
soft
and
flowing.
The empire waist comes up just under your bodice and flows around
your body.
- One
of
the
most
flattering
styles
is
a Basque
(V)
waistline with a full skirt.
The Basque style ballgown is hot this year. The V of the waistline is very flattering.
Add
a
modest
V
neckline,
and
you
could
look
at
least
10
lbs.
thinner!
Just
be
careful
if
you're
short
waisted
because
a
basque
waistline
that
falls
too
low
can
actually
emphasize
a
rounded
tummy
(if
that's
a
problem
for
you).
- Find a color that makes your
eyes sparkle. This will make you look radiant.
- Long flowing skirts are wonderful
for the girls who have heavier legs. Besides covering up an area that might not
be your best feature, they also add a touch of romance to your look. Who
doesn’t like romance?
- Do you think you have chubby arms?
Try a simple sleeve. This can also be a very elegant look. Or try on halter
styles;
many
girls
with
an
athletic
build
will
look
terrific
in
the
halter
cut.
If you’ve been reading this article
closely, you’ve probably noticed something that is even more important than the
style of the dress you wear. For every negative, there is a positive. It is
your charming personality and how you present yourself to those around you that
will determine how well you carry off the gown. Accentuating your physical
assets is only a very small part of having a wonderful time at prom, an evening
event or a family gathering.
Whether you're looking for just the
right dress to camouflage a tummy bulge or enhance the assets nature gave
you, surf on over to Prom &
